I walk over the fallen leaves
In company of ageless gold
Sowed the seeds to my sorrow
And proudly watched them grow
In weary glow of the sun
I've abandoned all hope
To feel the love and joy
And the warmth they once bestowed
Autumn winds carry me
On the wings of fleeing birds
Far away yet no escape
From the cold that nests within me
So I gave up the ghost
And buried all hope
Beneath its rusty gold
This roaring flame keeps me alive
And it's vital like the air we breathe
Searching a way to leave a trace
That lasts beyond a lifetime
And the sun sets in shades of lead
Upon our years when all is done and said

Thus solace hides
Beneath the mute careless skies
As rain falls
On the graves of absent friends
You may try altering time
but surely be caught
Lose your faith
in all they've ever taught
You may gaze the future
With bright hopeful eyes
But still untimely cast
A lifeless shadow behind...
